Gangarama Buddhist Temple - Colombo, Sri Lanka

Gangaramaya Buddhist sanctuary is an excellent and dynamic sanctuary with a history that goes back more than 2,000 years. This sanctuary was said to have been implicit the nineteenth century by a broker and ship proprietor named Don Bastion, who had assumed a main part in restoring Buddhism.



Situated close to a Holy Bo Tree on the waters of Beira Lake, the sanctuary is just open by intersection a wooden extension. As per authentic records, the Lord Buddha is presumed to have lectured under this Bo tree which is considered as a sapling of the Sri Maha Bodhi and is more than 100 years of age .



This Temple is well known for its forcing structures, and is finished with a chetiya, bo tree, picture house, Simamalaka, relic chamber containing the relics of the Buddha and Arahat Seevali, gallery, library, pirivena, and private, training and contributions corridors.



The Nawam Perahera, directed by the Gangarama sanctuary is a noteworthy vacation destination. The perehara was at first begun in 1979 and has been held continuous in the month of February from that point forward. This wonderful celebration of expressions has more than 1,000 entertainers and more than 100 elephants brought from various parts of the island is the highlight of the show.
